Sarah Michelle Gellar, born on April 14, 1977 in New York City, is an American television actress. Her career started at the age of four when she was discovered by a talent agent and landed a role in a TV film “Invasion of Privacy”, and later appeared in a Burger King commercial. The commercial was controversial because of explicit criticism of McDonald’s and eventually led to a lawsuit that resulted in a settlement by Burger King.
Sarah went on to make guest star and minor role appearances in “Spenser: For Hire”, “Funny Farm”, “Crossbow” and television soap opera “All My Children”, a role that won her an Emmy for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress award. She was also featured as a guest star on a hit TV series “Sex and the City” and participated in several editions of “Saturday Night Live”.
Her career went skyward when after auditioning over ten times she finally landed a lead role in a television blockbuster series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. The show was not just a hit, but also created a following revolving around “empowered” woman, making Sarah’s character a role model in United States and Australia, shedding the helpless and weak female image often portrayed by Hollywood.
Sarah appeared on numerous covers of such magazines as Cosmopolitan, FHN, Rolling Stone and Glamour among others, and was names on the Maxim’s Hot 100 list 5 times, as well as being included in “50 Most Beautiful People” list by People magazine.
