Avril Lavigne, born on September 27, 1984 in Bellville, Ontario, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, actress and model. Her talent became evident early in her teens, when she was already opening up for Shania Twain.
After being noticed by producers Ken Krongard and Peter Zizzo, she was asked to record songs, written by the label, but Avril insisted on singing her own material, resulting in conflicts around the music style. After having finally finished working on her album “Let Go”, it was released and reach 2nd spot on the US charts and peaking at top spot in Canada, Australia and the UK. The album yielded such hit singles as “Complicated”, “Skater Boy” and “I’m with you”, earning her MTV’s Best New Artist award, four Juno awards, and eight Grammy nominations in various categories.
Her second album “Under My Skin”, which she co-recorded with Chantal Kreviazuk, finally reached top spot on the US charts. Four of the album’s singles were released, two of which “Under my Skin” and “My Happy Ending” were highly successful both critically and commercially reaching top 10 in the United States. Her latest album “The Best Damn Thing” yielded a hit single “Girlfriend”, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week the album was released. Avril has also represented Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics during the closing ceremony when she performed “Who Knows”.
